Erol Uzumeri resigned as head of private equity at Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, Toronto, confirmed Deborah Allan, spokeswoman for the C$96.4 billion (US$96.36 billion) plan.
His final day will be May 14, Ms. Allan wrote in an e-mail response to questions. He has served in the position since 2003.
Ms. Allan said Chief Investment Officer Neil Petroff will assume Mr. Uzumeri's duties until a permanent replacement is found. “We are conducting an internal and external search,” she wrote.
She would not confirm reports that Mr. Uzumeri is leaving the pension system to start his own money management firm.
Mr. Uzumeri did not return calls requesting an interview.
