Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, Toronto, committed up to C$100 million (US$98.5 million) to Multiple Alternate Asset Management's International Fund, confirmed Linda Sims, board spokeswoman.
The private equity fund will be sector-agnostic and make long-term growth investments in midsized Indian companies, management-led buyouts and spinoffs of divisions from large Indian groups.
“Multiples will be the first India-focused fund to be backed by CPPIB,” according to a news release from the board, which oversees a total of C$123.9 billion in assets.
