When life hands you the Great Recession, throw a party. Or in this case — 80.
Stanley Fink, former CEO and deputy chairman of Man Group PLC, the world's largest listed hedge fund manager, and Arpad “Arki” Busson, founder and chairman of hedge fund EIM SA, are leading a fundraising event “that will redefine the notion of a party,” according to an announcement published on the event's website.
With 80 parties commencing within 24 hours beginning on Sept. 15, 2011, the celebration is inspired by Phileas Fogg — the fictional character in Jules Verne's “Around the World in 80 Days.”
The parties will take place in 80 venues throughout the world, including Core in New York; Silk Club in Lisbon, Portugal; Okku in Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Ragga in Mexico City; and Aranwa in Cuzco, Peru.
The charity event will raise money for London-based children's charity ARK, or Absolute Return for Kids. Mr. Busson is the founder of ARK, and Mr. Fink is its current chairman.
Separately, Messrs. Busson and Fink will also host an annual London gala dinner in May to raise money for ARK that will cost about £10,000 ($15,000) per person to attend.
