Margot Wirth was named director of private equity at the $132.6 billion California State Teachers' Retirement System, West Sacramento, spokesman Ricardo Duran wrote in an e-mail response to questions.
She assumed her duties today.
Ms. Wirth was a portfolio manager at the system and became interim co-director of CalSTRS' $16.8 billion private equity portfolio with Seth Hall, investment officer, when Real Desrochers retired as director of alternative investments in February 2009.
“Margot emerged as the best candidate fit for CalSTRS,” Mr. Duran stated in the e-mail.
Ms. Wirth will manage a private equity staff of 20 that also internally manages CalSTRS' Credit Enhancement Program, which underwrites municipal transactions on an opportunistic basis.
