Larry Pohlman was named chief investment officer of Alfred Berg Asset Management’s quantitative strategies team, and Amitabh Dugar was named a portfolio manager, leading the team’s research effort.
Both positions are new, said Cristina Lugaro, an investment specialist with the firm.
Stockholm-based Alfred Berg is a subsidiary of Fortis Investments. Messrs. Pohlman and Dugar will be based in Boston.
Reached by telephone, Mr. Pohlman said he has been doing independent research and serving as head of the quant programming committee at the Boston Security Analysts Society since leaving his post as director of quantitative research at Wellington Management in April 2008.
Ms. Lugaro said Mr. Pohlman will oversee the quant team’s performance and research with business development and sales responsibilities as well, initially in the firm’s established markets of Asia and Northern Europe. He also will lay the groundwork to pursue U.S. clients in the future.
Mr. Dugar previously served as a portfolio manager with Mellon Capital Management. BNY Mellon spokesman Mike Dunn said he won’t be replaced.
