Russell O'Brien was named managing director and head of North American institutional sales and consultant relations by hedge fund and fund-of-funds manager Nexar Capital Group.
The position is new at Nexar, which was launched in September by executives from the hedge fund group of Societe Generale Asset Management Alternative Investments, said David Millar, a spokesman. Mr. O'Brien will be based in Nexar's New York office.
“The deep experience Russell has in advising institutions on their investment solutions will be a valuable addition to our team as we continue to build our business,” Nexar CEO Arie Assayag said in a news release.
Mr. O'Brien was director of alternatives at Russell Investments, where he was responsible for marketing the firm's alternative investment strategies to institutional investors. Mr. O'Brien has been an institutional marketer throughout his 23-year career, including stints at Credit Suisse, David L. Babson and SSgA.
Matt Burkhard, a Russell Investments spokesman, did not have information about Mr. O'Brien's replacement by press time.
