John Melvin was named a managing director and global head of insurance fixed-income portfolio management at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, a spokesman confirmed.
He replaced John Gauthier, who left GSAM in June 2008 to join Allied World Assurance Co. as a senior vice president and chief investment officer.
Mr. Melvin will oversee the global portfolio management investment process and implementation for GSAM’s insurance fixed-income clients and work with the insurance sales and strategy teams to develop customized investment products, according to a news release.
Mr. Melvin was managing director and head of U.S. portfolio management for Deutsche Insurance Asset Management. He was replaced in August by Robert McCollum and Gregory Staples, co-heads of insurance portfolio management.
