Stocks started the week strong today, with the Dow Jones industrial average setting a year-to-date closing high. Gold also reached a record high in intraday trading, and oil teetered around the $80-a-barrel mark.
The Dow Jones industrial average closed up 203.52, or 2.03%, at 10,226.94; the S&P 500 rose 23.77, or 2.22%, closing at 1,093.07; and the Nasdaq composite was up 41.62, or 1.97%, to close at 2,154.06. All numbers are preliminary.
The dollar fell against most major currencies with the euro approaching €1.50 per dollar.
Gold closed at a record high of $1,101.40, up 0.5%, while light, sweet crude oil closed at $79.43, up 2.58%.
