North Carolina Retirement Systems, Raleigh, had $60.2 billion in assets as of June 30, down 14.2% from a year earlier, according to a news release from state Treasurer Janet Cowell, the pension fund's sole fiduciary.
The fund's equity portfolio returned -27.7% over the fiscal year, while its real estate and alternatives portfolio returned -31.4% and -21.2%, respectively, over the same period. The fund's fixed-income portfolio returned 7.6% for the fiscal year.
The asset allocation as of June 30 was 47.1% global equity, 42.1% fixed income, and 5.4% each in real estate and alternatives.
