Thomas Macina was named president of Mesirow Advanced Strategies, a new position, said Greg Fedorinchik, senior vice president and head of investor solutions.
Mr. Macina will retain his current position as head of manager research for MAS, which manages $10 billion in hedge funds of funds. He will report to CEO Marty Kaplan.
Mark Kulpins also was promoted to the new position of director of portfolio research, assisting CIO Stephen C. Vogt with portfolio construction and risk management of hedge fund-of-funds portfolios, Mr. Fedorinchik said. Mr. Kulpins remains senior vice president and was previously head of the MAS relative value strategy team.
Brian Portnoy, senior vice president, was promoted to the new position of associate head of manager research to assist Mr. Macina in managing the hedge fund manager research process.
Separately, Eric Siegel, chief operating officer and head of operational due diligence, joined MAS' investment committee “to maintain and strengthen the firm's focus on evaluating hedge fund managers' business operations and organizational infrastructure,” according to a news release.
