BATS Global Markets plans to launch a U.S. equity options exchange, with a target date of early 2010 for live trading.
“We are excited to move forward with BATS Options and are appreciative of the outstanding feedback and support from our investors and current exchange members,” Joe Ratterman, CEO of BATS Global Markets, said in a news release.
The options exchange effort will be spearheaded by Jeromee Johnson, who joined BATS Global Markets' equity trading platform unit, BATS Exchange, as vice president of market development in April. Mr. Johnson was president of 3D Markets, a company that provides software and technology for institutional equity options trading.
Randy Williams, vice president, U.S. sales & global communications at BATS, was not immediately available for comment.
BATS Exchange claims a 12% market share in U.S. equities trading volume.
