RiskMetrics Group today invited the worldwide corporate governance community to participate in the process for developing its 2010 global proxy-voting policies.
Company executives, investors and others in the corporate governance community are being asked to complete a questionnaire by July 31 that will serve as the basis of a draft of 2010 policies, a statement by the firm said. The questionnaire is available at http://www.riskmetrics.com.
RiskMetrics plans to post the draft on its website in October to begin an open comment period, said spokeswoman Sarah Cohn. The process is open to anyone, not just RiskMetrics clients, Ms. Cohn said.
RiskMetrics will make the comments publicly available on its website to encourage discussion and transparency. It plans to post individual comments as they are received. Commenters may choose to post anonymously, Ms. Cohn said.
The firm plans to release final 2010 proxy-voting policies in mid-November, Ms. Cohn said.
“Corporate governance practices are being more closely scrutinized by investors in today's market climate,” Martha Carter, head of RiskMetrics' global governance research team, said in the statement. “Transparency around those practices has never been more important. Engaging with a wider, more geographically diverse set of industry constituents during our policy formulation process will help us address the critical new issues our clients are facing.”
