Tremont Group Holdings has been notified by the court-appointed trustee in the liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities that it is seeking the return of money Tremont received as a Madoff feeder fund, sources familiar with the situation confirmed.
Kevin McCue, a spokesman for Irving H. Picard, the partner with the law firm of Baker Hostetler in charge of the liquidation, confirmed in an e-mailed response to questions that Tremont received a letter. Mr. McCue declined further comment at this time.
A website set up by the liquidators suggested that the trustee could be more flexible in pursuing individual investors who received money back from Madoff than he would be toward feeder funds. The website said the trustee will consider a number of factors when determining whether to commence a lawsuit against non-feeder fund customers.
Tremonts spokesman declined to comment.
