Japans Government Pension Investment Fund, Tokyo, hired Newton Investment Management and Walter Scott & Partners to manage two global equity mandates, according to a news release by BNY Mellon Asset Management, the boutique firms parent.
BNY Mellon spokesman Mike Dunn would not say how much each manager will run. The mandates will be benchmarked to the MSCI Kokusai index.
A GPIF spokesman could not be reached for comment.
