The American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries, Arlington, Va., postponed its annual DOL Speaks conference in Washington from April 30 until Sept. 15 this year and it was not due to the economy.
Turns out that representatives of the ASPPA and the Labor Department, the conference's co-sponsor, thought it made more sense to wait until Phyllis Borzi, the Obama administration's nominee to head the DOL's Employee Benefits Security Administration, and the rest of the administration's new team take office.
(President Barack Obama announced his intention to nominate Ms. Borzi on March 25 and forwarded her nomination to the Senate on April 27.)
We thought there would be more interest in the conference if some of the appointments were in place, said Chris Robichaux, an ASPPA spokesman. Doug Halonen
