J. Mark Iwry was appointed by Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner as deputy assistant Treasury secretary for retirement and health policy and senior adviser to Mr. Geithner, effective today, Mr. Iwry said.
The position is new, Mr. Iwry confirmed in a telephone interview.
Mr. Iwry will oversee pension, health care, executive compensation and retirement issues for the department.
He was non-resident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and was the Treasury Departments benefits tax counsel during the Clinton administration. He also advised the Obama campaign on retirement issues.
I appreciate the secretarys confidence and am looking forward to joining (him and) the outstanding team at Treasury and in the rest of the administration, Mr. Iwry said.
