Trish Taniguchi and Glen Blacet today were named co-directors of global equities at the $113.7 billion California State Teachers Retirement System, Sacramento, said spokesman Ricardo Duran.
CalSTRS board created the global equity allocation in February, combining its $34.9 billion domestic stock and $14.7 billion international equity portfolios.
The target allocation to global equities is 55%, with two-thirds targeted to U.S. equities; as of Feb. 28, the portfolio made up 43.7% of systems assets with 30.7% in U.S. stocks and 13% in non-U.S. stocks.
Ms. Taniguchi and Mr. Blacet were interim co-directors and oversaw the consolidation of the two stock portfolios. Steven Tong, director of research and risk, had been director of internal U.S. domestic equities; Elleen Okada, who was director of international equities, has since retired.
Ms. Taniguchi and Mr. Blacet were portfolio managers of non-U.S. equities before taking on the positions of interim co-directors.
