Kroger Co., Cincinnati, made a voluntary $200 million cash contribution to its combined $2.2 billion pension plans on Feb. 2, according to an SEC filing.
The company contributed $20 million in 2008, $52 million in 2007 and $150 million in 2006, according to the filing. Additional contributions may be made this year if required under the Pension Protection Act, the Kroger filing said.
Separately, Macys Inc., Cincinnati, expects to contribute $295 million to $370 million to its $1.9 billion pension plan by Jan. 30, 2010, according to an SEC filing.
The expected contribution includes quarterly payments of about $30 million as well as a payment of $175 million to $250 million in September, according to the filing.
