There were no venture capital-backed IPOs and just 56 mergers and acquisitions of venture-backed companies in the first quarter, according to data released today by National Venture Capital Association and Thomson Reuters.
This is the second quarter in a row there have been no venture capital-backed IPOs.
For the 13 M&A deals in which price was revealed in the first quarter, the total disclosed value was $645 million.
A year earlier, there were 106 mergers and acquisitions and five IPOs that raised a combined $282.7 million. For the 40 M&A deals in which price was revealed in the first quarter of 2008, the total disclosed value was $4.5 billion.
In the last quarter of 2008, there were no IPOs, and 61 mergers and acquisitions with a combined disclosed value of $2.4 billion.
