Mark Carhart and Ray Iwanowski will retire next month as managing directors at Goldman Sachs Asset Management and co-heads of its Quantitative Investment Strategies team, according to a letter GSAM e-mailed to investment consultants today.
Giorgio De Santis, managing director and co-head, along with Mr. Carhart, of QIS research, also has decided to retire from the firm, according to the letter.
Katinka Domotorffy, managing director and head of strategy for QIS, will become CIO of the quant unit and head of QIS.
Bill Fallon, a managing director and senior portfolio manager, will become head of macro research, as well as joining Ms. Domotorffy as co-CIO of QIS macro/fixed-income strategies. Kent Daniel, managing director and senior portfolio manager, will become head of equity research, while joining Ms. Domotorffy and Bob Jones, a managing director, as co-CIOs of QIS equity business.
After remaining a few more weeks to ensure a smooth transition, Messrs. Carhart and Iwanowski will move on to pursue separate personal and professional objectives, the GSAM letter said.
Calls to Messrs. Carhart and Iwanowski were directed to GSAMs public relations team. GSAM spokeswoman Andrea Raphael confirmed the personnel changes, but declined further comment.
