Assets of U.S. corporate defined benefit and defined contribution plans totaled $5.19 trillion as of Sept. 30, down 7.2% from three months earlier, according to the Federal Reserves quarterly Flow of Funds report issued today.
The value of assets invested by those plans in corporate equities was $2.06 trillion as of Sept. 30, down 10.6% from the previous quarter.
Assets of state and local DB and DC plans totaled $2.73 trillion as of Sept. 30, down 5.3% from the previous quarter. Assets in federal retirement plans totaled $1.19 trillion, up 79 basis points from the previous quarter.
