U.S. corporate directors total compensation in most industries rose in 2008, with the largest increase 12.6% to a median $383,907 in the energy industry, according to a report today by The Conference Board.
Total compensation in the energy industry is the highest level for board members in any industry, a statement about the report said.
Total director compensation rose in 15 of the 22 industries studied this year. Compensation includes cash retainer, meeting fees, full-value stock and stock options.
The study is based on compensation data filed in 2008 by 2,319 SEC-registered companies and compiled by Salary.com, a statement about the report said.
