Andrew Vizcarra was named director of research at hedge fund startup D5 Advisors. The position is new, said Sara D. Malak, chief administrative officer.
Mr. Vizcarra interned at the firm last summer and was hired after receiving a doctorate in mathematics at Purdue University.
D5 was funded in November and now manages $26 million, Ms. Malak said. The firm recently received commitments of $50 million each from a hedge fund-of-funds manager and a hedge fund platform, which Ms. Malak said she could not identify.
