Keith P. Ambachtsheer received the CFA Institute's James R. Vertin Award, recognizing individuals for their research of relevance and enduring value to investment professionals, according to a statement by the institute.
Mr. Ambachtsheer is president of KPA Advisory Services, a consulting firm, and director of the Rotman International Centre for Pension Management at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto.
He has been a leading figure in the global pension arena for more than 30 years, helping established the Rotman center and serving as an adjunct professor of finance at the Rotman school. He also is a co-founder of CEM Benchmarking, which provides performance benchmarking services.
The award established in 1996 and made annually was presented to Mr. Ambachtsheer July 22 at the CFA Institute's financial analysts seminar in St. Charles, Ill.
Through KPA, Mr. Ambachtsheer writes the monthly Ambachtsheer Letter, which provides guidance on strategic pension issues. He also is the author of several books on pension fund management, including 2007's Pension Revolution: A Solution to the Pensions Crisis, in which he suggests a new pension design called the optimal pension system as a solution to today's pension crisis.
Mr. Vertin was a manager of Wells Fargo Investment Advisors, helping to build it into the indexing powerhouse that became Barclays Global Investors. Barry B. Burr
