Most industry insiders wouldn't characterize hedge fund shops as inspiring romance, but a fictional firm is the backdrop for a romantic comedy now being filmed in New York.
The buzz from The Hollywood Reporter is that The Good Guy has a real ring of authenticity when it comes to hedge funds, thanks to director and screenwriter Julio DePietro. In a former life, Mr. DePietro was a senior managing director for 10 years at the Chicago hedge fund bastion Citadel Investment Group LLC, which manages about $20 billion.
Mr. DePietro could not be reached for comment, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, his new film features Scott Porter as Tommy, a hedge fund manager who is falling for Beth, played by Alexis Bledel. Mr. Porter is best known for his role as a high school football coach in TV's Friday Night Lights and Ms. Bledel is famous for her portrayal of Rory Gilmore, the daughter in TV's The Gilmore Girls.
The Hollywood Reporter said the plot creates drama on the hedge fund trading floor as Tommy faces a meltdown instigated by other members of the fictional firm.
Mr. DePietro received kudos as executive producer of Manda Bala, a film that won Sundance Grand Jury Prizes for Best Documentary and Best Cinematography in 2007. Christine Williamson
