South Carolina Retirement System Investment Commission, Columbia, purchased $40 million in equity capital of TCW Energy Partners, a global energy and infrastructure investment fund of funds. South Carolina bought 100% of a private placement of 2 million common units at $20 per unit, giving it a 16% stake, said R. Blair Thomas, chairman and CEO of TCW Energy Partners, which is listed on Goldman Sachs GSTrUE private exchange. TCW Energy Partners had $203.6 million net asset value as of March 31.
The fund invests alongside and in TCW energy and infrastructure funds. Investors in the original offering included TCW, the $13.8 billion Ford Foundation, the $12.8 billion cash balance plans of Citigroup Inc. and the $8 billion Missouri State Employees Retirement System, Jefferson City.
