Laura K. Pollock was named a partner at investment management executive recruiting firm David Barrett Partners, said David Barrett, managing partner. The position is new. Ms. Pollock will lead senior-level searches for global and domestic asset and wealth management clients. She was a senior member at Russell Reynolds Associates. Russell Reynolds spokeswoman Sandra Galvin wasnt immediately available for comment.

Yusuf Samad is launching a U.K.-based consulting firm focused on hedge fund selection and monitoring. The new firm, scheduled to be established in September, will target endowments, pension funds and other institutional investors and will specialize in hedge fund investments to stabilize and preserve portfolios, Mr. Samad said. He was an investment consultant for European fund manager relationships at Hewitt Associates, working with some of the largest pension funds in the U.K. His responsibilities at Hewitt were divided among other members of the investment consultant team, confirmed Hewitt spokesman Colin Mayes.
Ezra Zask was named a director at global expert services firm LECGs New York office, confirmed a spokeswoman. It is a new position. Mr. Zask joined the firms securities practice. He is president of Lakeville Capital Management, a hedge fund advisory company formerly known as Ezra Zask Advisors LLC that evaluates hedge funds for investors. Mr. Zask said he will continue as president of the firm in addition to his duties at LECG. He also is professor in practice at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institutes Lally School of Management and Technology.
David Krein was named senior director, institutional markets, at Dow Jones Indexes, confirmed spokeswoman Naomi Kim. Mr. Krein replaced Ronnee Ades, who joined FTSE Group as head of the alternatives business unit. Mr. Krein will have global responsibility for institutional markets with a focus on research and development, Ms. Kim said. Mr. Krein previously was president of DTB Capital, a financial services firm he founded in 2006.
DTB Capital will be closed to new business, and Mr. Krein will service outstanding obligations, Ms. Kim said.
Kevin R. Mirabile was named COO at hedge fund-of-funds manager Larch Lane Advisors. The position is new, according to a news release. Mr. Mirabile was COO of Orca Asset Management, an investment advisory firm he co-founded in early 2007. Amid the difficult market environment for raising funds over the past year, Orca was closed, said a spokesman.
The $169.2 billion California State Teachers Retirement Systems compensation committee approved a search for a director of corporate governance. The position was created in October 2007, but a previous search at the portfolio manager level was unsuccessful. Staff recommended a search at the director level in hopes that the higher salary of a director will result in more qualified candidates. The position pays between $170,000 and $240,000 with the potential to ear up to 75% of the base pay in bonuses.
Joseph R. Linehan was named vice president, investments, a new position at ULLICO, according to a news release. Mr. Linehan will oversee the companys subadvised investment portfolio, reporting to Gary A. Amelio, president of retirement services. He was vice president of private capital and securities at ULLICO. Raquel Fuentes, a ULLICO spokeswoman, could not provide further details by press time.
Kevin A. Rowell was named president of Hennessy Funds, confirmed spokeswoman Tania Kelley. It is a new position. He will be responsible for developing distribution relationships and sales channels for Hennessy Advisors, which manages the family of mutual funds. He was president and head of U.S. retail distribution at Pioneer Funds Distributor, the distributor of Pioneer mutual funds. Joseph D. Kringdon was named executive vice president and head of U.S. retail distribution, taking Mr. Rowells duties, Pioneer spokesman Geoff Smith said.
