Hedge fund manager George Soros and Terrence Duffy, chairman of CME Group Inc., will appear Tuesday at a Senate committee hearing on energy market manipulation, the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation said in a statement today. The hearing will consider what measures should be implemented to prevent manipulation in the wholesale oil and petroleum distillate markets, said a spokeswoman for Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash.
Although the CME does not list oil or gas contracts, it handles the trading of energy contracts for the New York Mercantile Exchange, which it plans to acquire in an $8.8 billion deal.
