MIT’s Kothari to co-lead BGI research team

S.P. Kothari, deputy dean at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Management, will join BGI on July 1 as managing director and co-head of the cross-strategy research team, said spokesman Lance Berg. The position is new; Mr. Kothari will work with Richard Sloan, also co-head of the cross-strategy research team and managing director. Sloan previously was the sole leader of the team. Mr. Kothari will report to Richard Grinold, global head of research and Minder Cheng, CIO of equity and capital markets. Mr. Berg declined to comment on “rumor and speculation” concerning reports that Mr. Sloan, who joined BGI in 2006 from the University of Michigan’s Stephen M. Ross School of Business, is considering returning to a position in academia.
