Jane Mendillo will return to Harvard Management Co. on July 1 as president and CEO to oversee the investments of Harvard Universitys $34.9 billion endowment, according to a university news release. Ms. Mendillo is replacing Mohamed El-Erian, who left late last year to return to PIMCO as co-CEO and co-CIO. Ms. Mendillo will remain CIO of the $1.7 billion Wellesley College endowment through June, while the colleges president and trustees work on a search plan, said Wellesley spokeswoman Mary Ann Hill. Ms. Mendillo had worked with HMC for 15 years; she was vice president of external management when she left in 2002 to join Wellesley, where she built the colleges first investment office, according to the news release.
