There were 31 venture-backed IPOs totaling $3 billion in the fourth quarter of 2007, the most in any quarter since the third quarter of 2000, according to Thomson Financial and the National Venture Capital Association. For the year, 86 venture-backed companies went public, totaling $10.3 billion, a 51% increase in volume over 2006, when 57 companies went public, totaling $5.1 billion.
The largest disclosed deal of the quarter was NBC Universals $925 million acquisition of Oxygen Media LLC in October. The information technology sector had the most venture-backed companies going public, with 17 IPOs raising $1.5 billion during the fourth quarter. The largest IPO in the IT sector was Longtop Financial Technologies Ltd.s $182.6 million issue.
