Jane Mendillo was awarded the 2007 Industry Leadership Award by 100 Women in Hedge Funds, a philanthropic, educational and networking industry organization.
Ms. Mendillo is chief investment officer of the $1.5 billion endowment of Wellesley College, Wellesley, Mass., and she received the award in recognition of her talent, ethics and passion, which help define the hedge fund industrys standard of excellence, according to a news release from 100 Women in Hedge Funds. Ms. Mendillo is an alumna of Harvard Management Co., Boston, where she managed hedge fund, private equity, real estate and equity investments totaling $7 billion between 1987 and 2002 for Harvard Universitys now-$35 billion endowment.
Ms. Mendillo accepted her award at the organizations sixth annual gala in mid-November in New York. The event raised $2.3 million this year, which was donated to iMentor, a non-profit organization that fosters mentoring relationships between New York City teens and adult volunteers from many industries. IMentor has matched more than 4,000 pairs to date and, this year, will support more than 800 relationships between New York high school students and adult mentors.
