U.S. ETF assets rose 13% in August, with inflows of $22.2 billion, according to a report by SSgA. Market-cap ETFs, which attract the most assets, had $16.9 billion in inflows; sector funds, $3.1 billion; style-based funds, $2 billion; and fixed-income funds, $1 billion. International funds lost $2.2 billion in August.
BGI lost 2.5% of the market share year-to-date through Aug. 31, and SSgA lost 0.7%. Vanguard gained 1.5%. BGI had $285.5 billion in 138 ETFs; SSgA had $119.8 billion in 59 ETFs; and Vanguard had 33 ETFs with assets of $34.9 billion.
Seven funds were created last month, bringing the domestic total to 545 with total assets of $504.6 billion.
