And you thought their fees were offensive.
If fashion is the ultimate mode of personal expression, then we may be learning more about hedge fund managers than we ever really wanted to know.
A new clothing manufacturer, PJE Los Angeles, has rolled out a T-shirt made just for hedge fund managers looking to cut to the chase. The shirts, which boldly state “(expletive deleted) Me, I’m a Hedge Fund Manager,” are being ordered at a consistent clip from a number of New York City- and Greenwich, Conn.-based corporate addresses, said PJE Los Angeles Founder Peter Epstein.
The company, which just launched in mid-February, quickly sold out the 200 hedge fund shirts it had in its initial inventory at $36 a pop. But orders have outpaced supply so far, said Mr. Epstein, who said the reaction has already exceeded expectations. “I’ve had people call and ask for the shirts to be sent overnight,” he said. “I never would have thought people wanted these that badly”
Mr. Epstein said the T-shirt was designed to depict an off-beat slice of Americana — “Zeitgeist, if you will,” he said. “And this shirt just optimizes the hedge fund mind-set.”
He wouldn’t disclose the names of the companies where the shirts have been shipped so far, but did say his orders have come from large publicly traded financial companies and “name-brand” hedge fund managers.
All of whom are presumably looking to flaunt their “capitalist credentials with this straightforward bid for a romantic merger,” as Mr. Epstein puts it.
