Robert Follert, managing director, head of marketing and one of the founding partners of Byram Capital Management, is retiring from the value equity shop, confirmed Karen Roberts, director of marketing and client service. He will leave later this month after a 35-year career in the money management industry. Ms. Roberts will assume Mr. Follerts marketing responsibilities.
Eduardo Repetto was named chief investment officer at Dimensional Fund Advisors, effective March 30, confirmed spokesman Trent Freeman. Mr. Repetto will remain head of research at DFA. The CIO responsibilities had been handled by company founder David Booth, who will remain DFAs chairman, CEO, said Mr. Freeman.
Chris Sutton resigned as chief executive officer of Barclays Global Investors iShares in Europe, effective later this month, said spokeswoman Esther Nass-Fetzmann. Rory Tobin, head of global index and markets group in Europe, will assume Mr. Suttons responsibilities while retaining his current duties, Ms. Nass-Fetzmann said. Efforts to reach Mr. Sutton for comment were unsuccessful.
C. Michael Armstrong was named chairman of private equity firm SV Investment Partners, confirmed spokeswoman Micheline Tang. It is a new position. Mr. Armstrong was chairman and chief executive officer of AT&T Corp. and earlier at Hughes Electronics Corp., and also had been chairman of IBM World Trade Corp. Mr. Armstrong joined SV Investment Partners executive advisory board in 2003. The private equity firm also promoted Nicholas Somers and W. Montague Yort to managing partners from principals.
David Fann was promoted to president and CEO of PCG Asset Management, a subsidiary of PCG Holdings, a private equity consulting and asset management firm, he confirmed. Mr. Fann replaces Monte Brem, who was president of PCGs asset management unit when he left in September; the unit became a separate legal entity last month. Mr. Fann was managing director. As part of the new management structure, Mark Oemcke, managing director, was named chief operating officer; Michelle Davidson, managing director, is head of portfolio management; and Jay Rose, senior vice president, is head of research. Separately, board member Gerard K. Drummond was named chairman of PCG Asset Managements new board of directors. Separately, Mark A. Nydam is joining PCG Asset Management, a private equity investment management group, as managing director focusing on the clean energy and technology sector, said spokesman Roy Winnick. It is a new position. Mr. Nydam was a principal at Booz Allen & Hamilton, a management consulting firm.
Jon W. Zindel was named chief financial officer of American Century Investments, replacing Jonathan S. Thomas, who became chief executive officer March 1, said spokesman Chris Doyle. Mr. Zindel was the firms senior vice president of finance, a position that will not be filled, Mr. Doyle said. David C. Tucker was promoted to senior vice president of strategy and acquisitions. Mr. Tucker has been general counsel at American Century and supervised the team responsible for identifying and evaluating acquisition opportunities. With recent regulatory changes adding momentum to industry consolidation, the firm saw a need for a full-time executive position to look after acquisitions and strategy, Mr. Doyle said. Charles Etherington, who had been in charge of the firms legal and compliance matters, will replace Mr. Tucker as general counsel.
Mark McCombe will replace Alain Dromer as head of HSBCs group investment businesses, four investment management subsidiaries with a total of $328 billion in assets under management as of Dec. 31, according to spokeswoman Jenne Mannion. Mr. McCombe will assume the role on March 31 when Mr. Dromer leaves HSBC to pursue other interests, Ms. Mannion said. Further details were not available, and Mr. Dromer declined to comment. Mr. McCombe is chief executive of HSBC Private Bank for the U.K., Channel Islands and Luxembourg. HSBC is searching for Mr. McCombes replacement in the private banking role, Ms. Mannion said.
Andy Green will join the managing consulting practice of Deloitte in Edinburgh as a partner, according to sources. He will also be a director of Deloittes total reward and benefits practice area. Mr. Green was a worldwide partner, senior consultant and European director of consulting with Mercer Investment Consulting in Edinburgh. Mercer spokeswoman Jackie Barber said Ralph Frank, a principal with Mercer Investment Consulting, replaced Mr. Green. Christopher Faile, a New York-based spokesman for Deloitte, declined to comment.
Craig S. Phillips, former global head of securitized products for Morgan Stanley, founded a new firm, Ptarmigan Capital, to focus on real estate-related investments in India and U.S. residential markets, said Roland Tomforde, spokesman. Mr. Phillips is chairman and CEO of the new firm. He left Morgan Stanley in April 2006, Mr. Tomforde said. R.V.S. Rao will be chairman of Ptarmigan Capital Investment Advisors, the firms real estate investment arm in Bangalore, India. He was executive director and board member of Housing Development Finance, Indias largest mortgage bank.
Kevin Kearns joined Loomis Sayles as a vice president and senior derivatives strategist, according to spokeswoman Erin Heggerick. It is a new position. Reporting to fixed-income CIO Jae Park, Mr. Kearns will lead the firms efforts to develop and implement investment strategies that incorporate credit default swaps and related derivative instruments. Mr. Kearns was director of derivatives, quantitative analysis and risk management at Boldwater Capital Management. Joseph H. Morgart, a managing partner and director of investor relations at Boldwater, said Mr. Kearns responsibilities were assumed by other team members.
John Riazzi, principal, managing director and chief executive officer of Transamerica Investment Management, resigned. He will leave the firm in June and intends to start his own firm. Mr. Riazzi, who is based in Dayton, Ohio, will be replaced as CEO by Gary Rolle, Transamericas principal, managing director and chief investment officer, who is based in Los Angeles. Mr. Rolle will remain CIO for growth equity strategies. Michelle Stevens, a principal, managing director and portfolio manager based in Dayton, will take on additional responsibilities as value equity CIO. Calls to Transamerica officials were not returned by press time.
Tara Blackburn joined alternative investment consultant and fund manager Hamilton Lane as a managing director, confirmed spokesman Michael Mandelbaum. It is a new position. Ms. Blackburn was a managing director at private equity consulting and asset management firm Pacific Corporate Group, which she left in September.
Joseph P. Gill was named director of product management at hedge fund-of-funds manager Corbin Capital Partners, which manages $2.6 billion for institutional investors. It is a new position. Mr. Gill will oversee development of new investment strategies, according to a news release. He was managing director and chief marketing officer of alternative fixed-income manager Highland Financial Holdings. Bradford Goz, Highlands head of marketing, did not return a call seeking information on Mr. Gills replacement.
Michael Walsh was named State Street Corp.s head of investment servicing in the United Kingdom, Middle East and Africa, confirmed Carolyn Cichon, spokeswoman. He will remain head of investment servicing in Scotland and report to Peter ONeill, executive vice president and head of investment servicing, investment research and trading businesses for the U.K, Middle East and Africa. Mr. Walsh replaced Peter Baker, who was named State Streets head of investment servicing business for Asia ex-Japan last year.
Jay Horgen was named an executive vice president at Affiliated Managers Group, focusing on investments in new AMG affiliates, said spokeswoman Laura Nicoll. He replaces Seth Brennan, who retired last month. Mr. Horgen was founder and managing director at private equity firm Eastside Partners. Prior to that, he was an investment banker in the financial institutions groups at both Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs, and worked on several of AMGs previous acquisitions, said Ms. Nicoll. Emerson Fann, a managing director with Eastside Partners, didnt immediately respond to messages seeking comment.
John J. Moon joined private equity firm Riverstone Holdings as a managing director, said spokesman Alexander Gordon. It is a new position. Mr. Moon will be on the investment committee of Riverstones $3.8 billion Global Energy and Power Fund III and $685 million Renewable Energy Infrastructure I. He was managing director at Metalmark Capital, which manages the Metalmark Capital private equity funds and subadvises the Morgan Stanley Capital Partners funds. Vanessa Adler, vice president of Metalmark Capital, did not return calls seeking information on a replacement.
Philip Anker was named managing director and global head of institutional sales and marketing for Citigroup Alternative Investments, confirmed spokesman Jon Diat. Mr. Anker will be based in London and oversee global sales and marketing activity. He reports to Chief Operating Officer Michael Froman. Mr. Anker was head of European institutional sales for CAI and replaced Neil Brown, now managing director of new markets. Owen Thiers and Francois Bornens, both former directors of European institutional sales, were promoted to co-heads of European institutional sales to replace Mr. Anker. They will report to him. Messrs. Thiers and Bornens wont be replaced in their former positions.
Sam DeKinder was named director of sales and marketing services at Aladdin Capital Management, confirmed Mike Carroll, director at the specialized fixed-income manager. It is a new position. Aladdin is in the process of expanding its investment offerings and is adding to its sales and marketing efforts, Mr. Carroll said. Mr. DeKinder had been a director of relationship management at INVESCO North America. Bill Hensel, spokesman for INVESCO, said Mr. DeKinder retired late last year and was not replaced.
Gitu Panjabi was appointed London-based director of European consultant relations at the institutional asset management division of OppenheimerFunds, said Adrian Gordon, managing director OFI Institutional. It is a new position. Ms. Panjabi was head of U.K. consultant relationships at Investec Asset Management. She left in August and was not directly replaced, said Mark Samuelson, Investecs head of global institutional business.
State Street Global Advisors reorganized its financial intermediaries sales and relationship management team renamed the intermediary business group to provide more focused service to distinct channels and bolster growth in the firms ETF, mutual fund and separately managed account businesses, said Anthony Rochte, a senior managing director. Among the promotions accompanying the reorganization, Dodd Kittsley, previously director of ETF research, was appointed director of strategy and research, overseeing an eight-person group providing customized portfolio products to asset managers and others. Jill Iacono, a national accounts manager, was named director of national accounts, overseeing account management across the intermediary business group.
