Kansas Public Employees Retirement System, Topeka, could be required to divest companies with business operations in Sudan under a bill likely to be considered next week by the Kansas House Select Committee on the $13.3 billion fund.
The bill would require KPERS Executive Director Glenn Deck to compile a divestment report for the 2008 Legislature to address the financial impact of divesting such companies, according to the bill. The House panel received the bill after it was unanimously passed by the state Senate on Wednesday. Neither Mr. Deck nor CIO Robert Vince Smith was available for comment.
