Charley Lax loves nothing better than a good cigar.
Charles R. Lax's day job is managing general partner of GrandBanks Capital Inc., a Boston-based venture capital firm. But cigars and cigar lore are his avocation.
As part of his biography, he describes himself as "an internationally recognized cigar aficionado and a proud member of the Boston University Cigar Aficionado's Club." He even quipped in a guest column in an industry newsletter that he steers away from cities such as London and Toronto that have declared themselves "smoke free."
He also devotes half of GrandBank Capital's "On the Hook" newsletter each quarter to all things cigar. The feature — "From Lax's Humidor" — offers news articles, cigar event calendars and cigar promotions (courtesy of cigarcyclopedia.com). A recent missive included an article originally published by BBC News on how Cuba's large number of centenarians attributed their longevity to "laying off alcohol, but indulging in coffee, cigars and sex."
Mr. Lax also has a personal cigar mailing list and solicits readers' thoughts and reviews on local cigar bars. You can e-mail him at [email protected]
