NEW YORK — Joel Chernoff was named executive editor of Pensions & Investments, while Isabelle Clary joined as senior reporter covering trading and technology. Both are based in New York.
Mr. Chernoff will help oversee news and special projects, and will assist in training new staff. He reports to Editor Nancy K. Webman; together, they will be responsible for determining and implementing strategic changes in editorial coverage, including developing P&I's expanding web presence (through pionline.com)
Mr. Chernoff, formerly chief of bureaus, has been a reporter for P&I for nearly 25 years. He has covered investment, legislative and regulatory issues. In 1993, he opened the publication's London bureau, where he worked for six years.
Most recently, Mr. Chernoff covered portfolio strategies and pension funds on the West Coast from P&I's San Francisco bureau. "I've covered everything from CalPERS to CAPM," he said.
Mr. Chernoff has a B.A. with honors in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He and his family will relocate to New York in early April.

Ms. Clary joined P&I from Financial News, a London-based weekly newspaper, where she was U.S. trading and technology editor.
Previously, Ms. Clary had been markets editor for Securities Industry News, a weekly financial newspaper. She also was with Reuters for seven years, as head of the financial desk in Paris and Federal Reserve correspondent in New York. She covered the U.S. Treasury market for Knight-Ridder Financial, and started her career as correspondent for United Press International in Indonesia.
Ms. Clary holds the equivalent of a masters in economics with a specialization in capital markets from the Institut Superieur de Gestion in Paris.
