Wilshire Associates and Dow Jones Indexes plan to introduce the Dow Jones Wilshire Global Total Market index - consisting of more than 10,000 stocks - as early as October, said Ronnee Ades, senior director-institutional marketing, Dow Jones Indexes. It will consist of "every publicly traded stock where you can get pricing," she added.
Wilshire and Dow Jones had hoped to unveil the new global index last month, but the need for further analysis and due diligence delayed the introduction, she said.
The new index will be based on the Dow Jones Wilshire 5000 stock index, which will make up about half of the stocks, she said. Dow Jones Indexes, which handles the calculating and marketing of the index, will seek to license financial products, including investment funds based on the global index, she said.
