Carrol Holman was named assistant treasurer for the $535 million Georgia Firefighters' Pension Fund, effective July 5, confirmed James R. Meynard, executive director. She replaces Christian Campen, who resigned in January.
The Conyers, Ga.-based plan will start reviewing some of its investment management relationships later this summer, with Ms. Holman's help, Mr. Meynard said. Ms. Holman now works as chief administrator at Amada Laser America Inc., a metals equipment retailer.
Ron Poppell was named senior programs officer at the Florida State Board of Administration's $2.167 billion defined contribution plan, said Michael P. McCauley, director of investment services and communications. Mr. Poppell, who was director of educational services for the Tallahassee-based plan, replaced Kevin SigRist.
Mr. SigRist was named deputy executive director of the $153 billion Florida State Board, effective June 1. Information on how Mr. Poppell will be replaced was unavailable by press time. Mr. SigRist also worked as chief of enterprise risk management and investment services at the Florida board; his duties will be reassigned among existing staff.
Keith Ince was named executive vice chairman and head of asset management Australia at Credit Suisse, according to a news release. He was a director of Everest Capital and Everest Babcock & Brown Alternative Investment Management. Further information was not available at deadline.
Mark Talbot was named chief executive officer of Asia ex-Japan for Barclays Global Investors, confirmed spokesman Lance Berg. Mr. Talbot had been the firm's chief investment officer for Asia fixed income, and he will retain that responsibility in his new role. Mr. Talbot takes over the CEO position from Bob Haber, who will now be a vice chairman.
Boris Onefater was named chief financial officer and chief operating officer at Dreman Value Management, confirmed spokeswoman Colleen Sullivan. She declined to provide details on whom he replaced. Mr. Onefater was a partner at Deloitte & Touche, where he headed the hedge fund practice within the company's capital markets group. Chris Faile, Deloitte spokesman, said the company expects to name a replacement shortly.
Brad Briner joined Morgan Creek Capital Management as principal. It is a new position, said Mike Hennessy, managing partner. Mr. Briner will help to raise a second fund of funds, expected to close next year. The firm was formed 18 months ago by Mark W. Yusko, former chief investment officer of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mr. Briner was an independent consultant to Morgan Creek.
Gary D. Nusbaum joined Palladium Equity Partners as managing director, said Laura Walker, spokeswoman. It is a new position. Mr. Nusbaum left his position as managing director and head of private equity at Aetos Capital in 2005; no additional information was available.
Matthew Sauer was named senior vice president and analyst at Ariel Capital Management, confirmed Merrillyn Kosier, executive vice president. The position is new, said Ms. Kosier, who added Mr. Sauer will cover the insurance sector. Mr. Sauer was an executive vice president and senior portfolio manager at Oak Value Capital Management, where his responsibilities have been assumed by other members of the investment team.
John Roth was named portfolio manager of Fidelity's $3.4 billion New Millennium Fund, according to a news release. He will take over his new role on July 1, replacing portfolio manager Neal Miller, who will retire from the firm at the end of this month. Mr. Roth has managed the Fidelity Select Consumer Industries Portfolio, Fidelity Advisor Consumer Industries Fund and VIP Consumer Industries Portfolio for the past two years. These three funds will now be co-managed by portfolio managers Martin Zinny and Robert Lee. Mr. Zinny will also continue to manage the Fidelity Select Retailing Portfolio, and Mr. Lee will continue to manage the Fidelity Select Food and Agriculture Portfolio.
Dow Jones Indexes and Wilshire Associates announced the formation of the Dow Jones Wilshire Indexes Advisory Board.
Named to the board were: John C. Bogle, president, Bogle Financial Markets Research Center; Paul Brakke, senior principal, State Street Global Advisors; Robert Podgorny, president, National Conference on Public Employee Retirement Systems; Steven Schoenfeld, chief investment strategist, Northern Trust; Wayne H. Wagner, senior vice president and chairman, Plexus Group; and Robert J. Waid, vice president and principal, Wilshire Associates.
John A. Prestbo, editor and executive director of Dow Jones Indexes, was named chairman of the board; Ronnee Ades, senior director, institutional markets, Dow Jones Indexes, will serve as executive director.
