Stocks plunged almost 200 points today, with uncertainty over a possible Federal Reserve rate increase later this month fueling concerns about a slowing economy and rising inflation. The Dow Jones industrial average closed down 196.26, or 1.74%, at 11,051.61; the S&P 500 fell 22.68, or 1.76%, ending at 1,265.54; and the Nasdaq composite closed down 49.65, or 2.24%, at 2,169.75.
