Rep. Earl Pomeroy, D-N.D., today asked Labor Secretary Elaine Chao to promptly release the PBGC's 2005 annual report, which hadn't been released later than April 8 in the past five years. In a letter sent to Ms. Chao today, Mr. Pomeroy said: "The delay in the release of the comprehensive report is directly in contrast to the secretary's own promise of greater transparency and is leaving millions of people in the dark."
Currently, legislators working on a compromise pension reform bill and are not expected to produce a final version by the end of the day, when Congress goes into recess until June 6.
Jeffrey Speicher, a spokesman for the PBGC, noted that the PBGC did release its financial report for fiscal year 2005, ended Sept. 30, on Nov. 15.
Stephanie Craig, a spokeswoman for Mr. Pomeroy, said that the annual report often contains items that are not in the PBGC's financial report.
