IW Financial will give state treasurers free access to research on companies doing business in Sudan, according to a statement from the company.
IW Financial - a provider of research and analytics on environmental, social and corporate governance performance -also is offering guidance on prospective implementation models to assist with laws that require state pension fund reporting, shareholder initiatives or divestment from companies operating in Sudan, the statement said.
"For state treasurers who must interpret or advise on new or potential divestment mandates, the task of developing and applying legislative criteria can be daunting," Mark Bateman, IW Financial director of research, said in the statement. "Some companies may be directly or indirectly supporting the government by doing business in Sudan while others are selling products that are used for humanitarian purposes. Our data can help make this distinction and help states develop targeted policies."
