Note to any pension plan trustee or administrator who has wished someone would write "Everything You Wanted to Know About Public Pensions (But Were Afraid to Ask)": look no further.
The National Conference on Public Employee Pensions has published a handbook on key issues including how pension plans determine benefit levels and fund them, how to work with actuaries and how to best allocate plan assets.
"Given the complexity of the issues and the challenges pension trustees and administrators face on a daily basis, there's a need for new educational tools," NCPERS President Bob Podgorny said in a statement.
The handbook, titled "Public Pensions & You," is available on NCPERS' website at www.ncpers.org/pensionbook.asp.
