Stan Pearson was named head of European equities for Standard Life Investments, effective April 10, confirmed a spokeswoman who did not want to be named. He will report to Lance Phillips, head of overseas equities at Standard Life, which has £118.8 billion ($207 billion) in assets under management. Mr. Pearson will replace Fraser Chalmers, who was named investment director of Japanese markets, according to a news release. Further information about Mr. Chalmers' new post could not be learned by press time. Mr. Pearson was head of equities at Pioneer Investment Management, where his duties will be handled by Mauro Ratto, CIO for Europe and Asia, confirmed Lorraine Gallagher, spokeswoman for Pioneer in Dublin.
Heather Arnold will join Goldman Sachs Asset Management in London as a portfolio manager for pan-European portfolios, effective May 2, according to an internal memo. She will replace Julian Abel, managing director and senior portfolio manager, who will retire from GSAM on May 2 to pursue a new career teaching math to middle-school students. Ms. Arnold will assume Mr. Abel's coverage of mining and metals, while his coverage of chemicals will be "absorbed within the industrials sector team led by Tara Connolly," according to the memo. Ms. Arnold was portfolio leader for Putnam Investments' Europe Equity Fund. On March 24, Putnam announced that she had decided to leave Putnam and would be replaced by Joshua L. Byrne, co-CIO for international core equity. Goldman Sachs spokeswoman Andrea Raphael declined to comment.
Ed G. Robertiello was named head of hedge fund research and selection by Credit Suisse. He replaces James Vos, who "decided to step down from his current responsibilities and to explore other opportunities within Credit Suisse," said Wesley McDade, a spokesman. Mr. Robertiello reports to Nils Tuchschmid, who was recently promoted to head of Credit Suisse's multimanager portfolio unit, which includes both hedge funds and long-only managers, Mr. McDade said. Mr. Tuchschmid was head of portfolio management in Credit Suisse's hedge funds-of-funds operation, with responsibility for portfolio definition, portfolio construction, strategy and hedge fund allocation, product engineering and market research. Mr. McDade said a replacement has not been named yet to fill Mr. Tuchschmid's previous position. Mr. Robertiello was managing director of investment and research at hedge fund-of-funds manager Asset Alliance. Barry Wintner, director of research, assumed Mr. Robertiello's position in addition to his own, said Armel Leslie, a spokesman.
Bennett Freeman will join Calvert Group as senior vice president for social research and policy, a new position, on April 18. He will manage the social analysis functions and lead the development of the firm's positions on social issues. Mr. Freeman was a senior counselor and managing director of the global corporate responsibility practice at Burson-Marsteller, a public relations firm, and was deputy assistant U.S. secretary of state for democracy, human rights and labor from 1999 to 2001.
