The Pennsylvania Public School Employees Retirement System, Harrisburg, hired Batterymarch Financial Management, Wellington Management and William Blair to manage portions of a new emerging market equity portfolio, said Evelyn Tatkovski, spokeswoman for the $54.8 billion retirement system. Batterymarch and Wellington will manage roughly $320 million each, and William Blair, roughly $160 million. PennPSERS recently increased its non-U.S equity allocation to 30% from 20% of assets, and the emerging markets portfolios are part of the retirement system's strategy to diversify its non-U.S. equity holdings. The system reduced a portion of its internally managed domestic equity portfolio to fund the new investments, said Ms. Tatkovski. Wilshire Associates assisted.
