Thomas "Tommy" M. Taylor, president and CIO of hedge fund-of-fund manager The Taylor Cos., died Feb. 19 as the result of a snowmobile accident in upstate New York. His wife, Linda, was seriously injured, according to a letter from the company to clients and friends. Mr. Taylor co-founded the firm in 2001. He worked in the investment operations of the Bass family office in Fort Worth, Texas, from 1978 to 1999, eventually becoming CIO.
The Taylor Cos. will continue operating with the investment team that has been in place since the firm was founded, a spokeswoman confirmed. Portfolio manager Barry Cronin, who worked closely with Mr. Taylor, was named portfolio manager of the firm's dedicated insurance funds, the Taylor Insurance Series and Taylor Investment Series. Mr. Cronin will remain manager of the Taylor Waypoint Fund. Brad Sylvester will continue to direct private placement and insurance advisory services, said the spokeswoman, and company co-founders Kevin McDonald and Jason Taylor will continue to oversee operations. The spokeswoman declined to say how much the firm managed.
The spokeswoman said funeral arrangements for Mr. Taylor have been delayed pending Mrs. Taylor's recovery.
