Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, Toronto, is investing a third of the equity of a new company formed by the merger of Riddell Bell Holdings Inc. and Easton Sports Inc., said Deborah Allan, spokeswoman for the C$90 billion (US$78.4 billion) plan. The plan invested the money through Teachers' Private Capital and York Street Capital Partners; Ms. Allan declined to give the exact size of the investments. Teachers' Private Capital is the private investment arm of the teachers plan, which has a private equity portfolio of around C$7 billion. It also is the primary capital sponsor of York Street Capital Partners, a mezzanine and equity investment firm that is also adding to its existing $10 million equity investment in Riddell Bell Holdings as part of the transaction.
Riddell Bell Holdings is a portfolio company of Fenway Partners, a New York-based private equity firm that approved the merger and invested in the deal.
