American International Group today filed suit against several former officials of AIG Capital Partners, which manages AIG's emerging markets private equity business. Named in the suit, filed in U.S. District Court in New York, are Peter Yu, former president and CEO; William Jarosz, former general counsel; and three other former AIG Capital employees and advisers. The lawsuit also names Cartesian Capital Group, a New York-based private equity firm AIG claims was formed by Messrs. Yu and Jarosz, and two funds allegedly being raised by the firm — The Pangaea Fund LP and The Cartesian Capital Fund LP. The suit claims the defendants were trying to use AIG computer files to obtain e-mails, memos and "confidential business information" to compete with the giant insurer. AIG wants the court to stop the defendants from competing with AIG Capital Partners including contacting former AIG investors and raising any private equity funds. Messrs. Yu and Jarosz and other defendants could not be reached for comment by press time.
