The Regents of the University of California, Oakland, will vote at their Jan. 18-19 board meeting on whether to approve a proposal for divestment of the university's Sudanese-related holdings. The $64 billion endowment has approximately $100 million in such investments, including PetroChina, said Jason Miller, director of the UC Sudan Divestment Taskforce. As part of the proposal, the task force recommended guidelines including developing a set of divestment criteria that would be submitted to a third-party research firm for confirming "offending" companies; divesting 60% of all Sudan holdings within 12 months and 100% within 18 months; and notifying managers of new divestment requirements and having them submit reports on their progress toward ex-Sudan investment strategies.
